Getting Back on Track

I won’t pretend that I’ve been the best at doing this currently. While I’ve had bursts of greatness, I allow myself to fall back into the foolishness and lapse back into a place that I’m not proud to be in. Things don’t get accomplished when this happens and I’m frustrated at the lack of progress. So what am I doing to get back on track? Making a decision. This seems so simple so I’ll break it down.

- The first thing I’ve come to recognize is that things “getting off track” didn’t happen in one day so I can’t expect everything to align as I’d want them to in one day. It takes some time, but it’s about completing the positive behaviors consistently that allow for the flow I desire to happen. Choose one or two tasks that you can begin to address more regularly and it won’t hinder the other things you’ve already committed to. Slowly incorporate those things back into your schedule. Over time, you’ll find that those things are resolved.

- I’ve often said it here and now I need to eat my own words: feelings don’t matter! When you’re stuck in a rut you often times feel like you are stuck in mud. Life keeps moving fast while you’re physically and mentally moving slow. This is by far one of the hardest things to conquer. Your mind really does get to decide how much you accomplish. Each day you have to tell the day you what you desire from it and allow your feelings to catch up. Many times I’ve found myself forcing the issue of doing something and once started I eventually get to the point that I desire doing the activity. Don’t let your feelings fool you into thinking that you’ll eventually do _______. Feelings are fickle and change quickly.

- Prioritizing needs more appropriately. My children not only need structure, but they do so much better when I have their monthly/weekly calendars prepared. I started for the school year and hadn’t done anything since. Today (11/2/21), I grabbed them off the wall and said no more excuses. This is something that’s not optional and it’s important for me to pay attention to when they have tests and grades as well as them knowing when those things will happen. I also recognize that I have to quit allowing myself to make excuses in regards to my workouts. Physical activity is a need for me and whether my hubby is available or not, I owe it to me to not get back in bad habits of waiting around. I have decided that if it means I do two day workouts then so be it, but not working out cannot continue. Do you need to rest….YES!! But be honest about that need and when it needs to happen.

While this isn’t life changing information that we don’t know, sometimes you need perspective to remind you that it really isn’t that hard to get back on track. In spite of how big the task may appear, it’s nothing more than a series of tasks that require a decision to be made in order to get the ball rolling. Have you found yourself falling off the horse lately? What are you doing or have you done to get back on track?
