Worth it Wednesday

Neighborhood

This week I’m not doing a regular product (I know…but I promise I’ll be doing a product review next week!).  This is about connecting within your community: Neighborhood Facebook pages

Initial Thoughts: I didn’t even realize this was a thing until we relocated to Texas. I’m sure it exists in SC, but the condo community we stayed in has yet to catch up to the current century in a lot of things so I wouldn’t doubt if it’ll be another 5-10 years before they get one. Anyway, I thought it was a really neat concept that keeps you aware of what’s going on as well as provides an opportunity to connect.

How’s it Going: Awesome! Moving here without family was a huge deal. There were things we needed and honestly didn’t have the connections to try and make that happen. Once joining our previous neighborhood’s page, we were able to find out information in regards to local events, services rendered by people living within the neighborhood, as well as local eateries. This matters so much!! Now that this is our community we want to do our best to make sure we invest in it as well as the people within it. Word of mouth referrals rank high on my decision making meter.

Is it Worth it: Yes. Check on Facebook and see if your neighborhood has one already (and join). If not, see what you can do about making it happen because there’s no reason not to have one since it’s free. I’ve seen things posted ranging from warnings about snakes to business advertisements. Of course anytime you have people in a group, there will always one or two that just complain but for the most part it’s been such as asset. Unfortunately I didn’t use this as much as I could have, but a lot of the housework that we’ve gotten professionals for came from referrals through our Facebook page. I personally will never understand people not wanting to have connections with those you live next to, but I think it so important to foster relationships with my neighbors. We aren’t best friends, but I have phone numbers of 5 families on my street and we are familiar with each other’s family. I never feel that my house isn’t secure if we leave because we have people willing to watch and they know they’ll get the same in return. These little things make living here much more enjoyable.

Do you currently have a relationship with any of your neighbors?
