Worth it Wednesday

Product: Floor Tile Stickers

Thoughts: I was super excited. I had previously watched more than my fair share of YouTube videos on peel and stick floor tiles, but since we had a home that isn’t even 2 years old I didn’t want to go that route and found the stickers on Etsy. While I wish they were cheaper, it is definitely a better alternative to pulling up tiles in order to redo floors.

Application: These are stickers so you have to prep your area really well and make certain that there are no grainy patches on the area prior to putting them down. I used an old college id to smooth everything down and once I got into a rhythm it was pretty straight forward. When I did make a mistake, depending on how much I needed to peel up, I would just fix it and smooth or pull it up completely and reattach it to the film. I knew that there would be several pieces that needed to be cut so I was willing to reuse them there or save them for crafting since I have plenty extra.

The Tea: These are definitely a great investment, but if you’re planning on using a specific size make certain that you measure precisely. I thought that I did, but it turned out that my tile were 1/4 inch longer than the normal 12x12 tile. This of course meant I had to try and center the stickers as much as possible. Thankfully they are really pretty and distract away from imperfections. These are easily removable if you’re renting and/or owning and because they aren’t terribly expensive could be changed after a few years without you having to clear out your savings.

-Mistakes I made:

1. I didn’t move the washer and dryer and start in the back first. It makes plenty of sense, but I wanted to clean and get started on the easiest parts first. Hindsight is really 20/20 so if I did it again I would definitely start in the harder areas before hitting the easy parts.

2. I forgot to swipe some of the tile to ensure all debris was gone and there were several moments that a grain of something got under the sticker and I needed to pull it up and attempt to smooth it down completely again. I was able to do it well for the most part, but there were a few that required me to just pull them up completely and try another sticker.

3. I didn’t consider a tile that possibly went better with gray grout versus a tile that looks amazing against white grout.

Is it Worth it: Yes.....I can’t say that enough. If you’re looking to redo a room with tile in an inexpensive manner this should definitely be considered as an option. You may or may not need help depending on how well you can handle projects that require a high level of patience and preciseness. I already have other projects planned for 3 of our bathrooms and will more than likely use these in order to complete the makeovers. If you aren’t a fan of the stickers, you may prefer the peel and stick tiles for your flooring project. You can’t go wrong with this easy solution to a project that can be super expensive.
