Worth it Wednesday

Marley Spoon

Product: Meal Delivery Kit

Initial Thoughts: Since we kept getting coupons to try different services we would go 4 weeks on each to get the discounts and just decide which one we liked the best

Cook Days: I know they give an amount of time that goes along with each recipe, but that is probably for a real chef and not a regular person that knows how to go through a recipe. Some are spot on, but definitely not all so you will definitely need some patience if you desire to have these meals. Cooking with fresh veggies and herbs just happens to take a little longer because of the prep, but there is clearly a difference between fresh basil and the one you pick up in a jar. If you are short on time, you will fare better with choosing a service that has a lot of the prep work completed and you just need to pop it in the oven.

Is it Worth it: This is probably one of the best finds for the Kambeya household in 2020. While I’m not a Michelin star chef or anything, I know my way around the kitchen. In spite of all the stuff I know, it was really difficult to come up with great meals on a weekly basis for several days a week and not end up with a revolving rotation of the same things with different sides. I know people will throw out the crock pot suggestion, but based on what my children eat it wasn’t going to ultimately be my go to option. Let me tell you what happened: Over the course of a few weeks my YouTube commercials were nothing but HelloFresh. It was pounded into my mind about how easy it was to have a healthy meal for you family at a fraction of the cost from eating out. Knowing how much food is a vital aspect of losing weight and an overall healthy lifestyle, I mentioned it to my husband. We agreed to look it over and use the code to get the first few meals discounted. We felt that the options provided a great variety and it was things that my children would not only get excited about helping make, but also eat. Anytime we get a box the kids are super excited about it and want to know what’s inside. They actually want to help me make dinner which is a positive (sometimes...just being honest) because we get extra time together. While HelloFresh was great, we ended up getting another discount offer to try Martha and Marley Spoon and we’ve been with them every since.

How Does it Work? You have to go to the website (there’s tons of brands that you can choose from), create an account including payment info., choose your meals based on the week and wait. It is such a simple process, but if you have it for an extended period of time you have to make certain that you go back and input choices you desire or you’ll receive the recommended meals. For a family of 5 with two meals per week, we spend roughly $75-80. I know that’s a lot of money for some folks but anyone that desires to eat fresh meats, veggies, and herbs already probably knows that these things costs a decent amount. Nothing is frozen!!! This is why the cost is what it is. Everyone in the house has been able to admit tasting the difference between fresh broccoli versus steam bag broccoli as well as green beans. Meals have become much more enjoyable because I don’t have to think about what we are having for dinner for at least two nights during the week. I know that eventually I could just take all the recipes and get the food myself and possibly save money, but convenience costs and this is one we are willing to pay.

Does anyone else get a meal delivery kit? What’s your thoughts?

I don’t get meals delivered, but have considered it mani times. I cook a lot of my meals for health reason and the specifics of what I’m eating. But it is an option once I’m in maintenance mode with my weight and cooking weekly meals for the hubby!!
Love the information & blog!! 💜

There are several options that work towards almost any eating plan you are on. I’d check them all out because they simplify life so much!! I can’t wait to see the next step in your journey.

Love the idea. At $75-80 for 2 meals for a fam of 5 (same as my house) that’s the average of my take out only 1.5 times in a week. My prob would likely be not following a recipe card, lol but you definitely have me interested! Thanks!!!

We definitely wing it on some days. The kids won’t eat all the fancy things they include and honestly neither will we. I don’t like wasting anything, but there’s only so much scallions or fresh garlic one person can have...LOL. Looking forward to your thoughts if you do go down the rabbit hole.

Great blog! I have never tried delivery meal services but it may be an investment I am willing to make. Time is of the essence in my household and I'm willing to pay for the convenience of having a thought-out meal plan delivered to my door.

I promise the only thing you’ll hate is actually making it....there are days that I’m like which meal is quickest. Other than that they really do taste great and it’s great variety if you get stuck on what to cook like me.
