Carpet

Product: Carpet Rake

Initial Thoughts: After reading several reviews, I felt that I had nothing to lose. I was sick of looking at flat carpet and was willing to try anything. Knowing we haven’t been in our home for 2 years yet, I wasn’t interested in replacing the carpets or just putting down flooring to match what we have everywhere else.

How’s it Going: Before I share my thoughts on this, let me state that I did a lot of research on what I could do for our carpets. I looked up as many diy recipes as I could in attempts to fluff out the carpet in our bedroom. I can’t remember what vacuum cleaner website I ended up on, but they suggested vacuuming everyday. I have no idea who that comment was for, but it certainly wasn’t for me. That’s just stupid. I do vacuum about 2-3 times a week because I hate dirty floors, but I knew if that’s what the carpet needed to stay fluffed we were basically doomed. Anyway....I found that a carpet rake could be the solution. It sounds dumb, but the truth is it works. I tend to rake a little prior to vacuuming and then going back over once I’m done. My kids even enjoy seeing the change in the carpet so I plan on taking it upstairs for them to use when they clean up as well. We only have carpet in the bedrooms, stairs, playroom, and media room. The hardest part for sure is the stairway. For the best results, I would assume doing an extensive carpet cleaning and then raking the carpet once dry would be the way to go. I can always update once I actually do this, but I’m not interested right now.

Is it Worth it: If you just have rugs, I probably wouldn’t invest in something this size. Also, low pile carpets would be much harder to see an actual difference. But, if you’re interested in upkeep of carpet to extend its life you should definitely get this. High traffic areas have a tendency to tell on themselves. I’m honestly not sure what type of carpet we have, but it can look like an elephant stumped through with how flat it gets. We do the rake randomly now because of how much better the carpet looks overall. If you know you aren’t in your forever home, like us, it makes sense to invest in the upkeep as much as possible versus attempting to do big updates once you’re ready to leave.
