Being an adult sucks.....Sometimes! (UPDATE)

Skincare

Am I saying I want to give up adulthood....absolutely not. The truth is, being an adult is not something that you can really be prepared for. Some of the expectations are taught, but the totality of the experience is just something you won’t know until you get here. Well here’s my gripe...It’s adult acne. I have NEVER had skin issues. I honestly didn’t have a great regimen until a few years ago outside of making sure my face was cleaned and moisturized. I remember all the nights I left makeup on my face or just cleaned it up with a wipe, and in spite of the mistreatment it still shined. I’d only have a pimple or two that would appear close to that dreaded time of the month and then radio silence. Rarely would I struggle with hyperpigmentation, but when it did occur it wasn’t that noticeable or lasted for a long period of time. That brings me to now. Ummm.....my skin has completely flipped out. I have a morning and nighttime regimen (They are different), I spend a decent amount of money on skincare because quality products and services cost more, I use SPF daily, I consider what I consume as a factor in skincare, I stopped popping (for the most part because sometimes I really can’t stand it..and no it doesn’t matter if I mess with a pimple or not a huge spot is left wherever the pimple was), and my adult skin has given me the middle finger. I’ve noticed that as I’ve continued on my weight loss journey it has gotten worse. I won’t say they’re connected since I’m not a doctor or anything, but when I had a fuller face my skin glowed and now it’s dulled by tons of hyperpigmentation and sebaceous filaments clogging the pores. It’s been a struggle emotionally for me because my skin was one of the things that just always acted right. Hair acting a fool..well at least my skin is nice. Clothes not fitting....that natural glow is beaming. But now, not so much. If you are experiencing this, you are not alone.

** While I don’t want to show these pictures, it’s important that I’m honest and show you what I’m really working with:

My plan of attack has been changing around products to find what’s going to work best for my skin. Naturally, you shouldn’t be changing products often so this means more time dealing with the foolishness than I’d prefer. I’ve added in masks a few times a week (different ones depending on the day) as well as purchased an LED light therapy mask alongside a few other things. Here’s what I currently have added to my regimen:

1. Concealer- This is not something I ever used in regards to makeup and quite honestly I’m a fan (Thanks Auntie Jackie). I choose this over foundation 98% of the time I put anything on and it’s so quick and easy. In the past I could just put one a little bit of BB cream and walk away, but since these face marks require a little more I give it a little more and it hasn’t been terrible.

2. Dettol- I have no idea what this was, but after stumbling across a few YouTube videos I decided to give it a try. This is the most recent and I plan on giving a two week follow up to show whether or not there will be any improvements. Based on this being a controversial product, I will encourage anyone reading this to do your research. You have ONE face and it’s your responsibility to take the best care of it you can.

3. Collagen- I have used it in the past, but I haven’t been consistent so I’m making an effort to make certain I have some on hand and use it as apart of my beauty regimen.

I have been using Dettol skincare soap for at least a week and I will say that my skin feels soft and the dark spots on my chest have started lightening up. As far as my face though, it hasn’t miraculously cleared up my dark spots surrounding the outside of my face. I can say that they appear to be getting lighter, but then more spots pop up so that feels like it negates any progress that could be being made. Anybody else struggling with this? What are you doing that could be working for you?

*UPDATE*

After 2 weeks of going through the steps to improve my skin, I feel that it has improved some. I definitely haven’t applied masks nearly as much as I had previously and that could have impacted the results, but I’m happy to report there has been some change. Skin takes time to heal and I don’t want to rush the process so I’ll keep doing what’s necessary to get my skin back on track. What have you found that’s super helpful with hyperpigmentation?
